Course Breakfast
Cuisine Turkey
- 12 cups Bread (cut into cubes)
- 1 cup Butter (unsalted)
- 3⁄4 cup Onion (minced)
- 1 1⁄2 cups Celery, stalks and leaves (chopped)
- 1 cup Mushroom (chopped)
- 2 teaspoons Salt
- 1 teaspoon Pepper
- 1 tablespoon Ground sage
- Chicken broth (no-salt-added)
In a skillet, melt the butter and sauté the celery until tender. Reserve a quarter cup of the butter/celery mixture.
In a large bowl, place the bread cubes and pour the reserved butter/celery mixture over them. Toss the cubes well to ensure even coating.
Repeat the previous step with the remaining butter/celery mixture until all of it is used, making sure each cube gets a generous coating.
Allow the coated cubes to cool down before proceeding.
If used as stuffing for a turkey, stuff the cooled cubes into the bird's cavity. Be sure to follow proper food safety guidelines for stuffing a turkey.
Alternatively, for a crockpot method, place the coated cubes in the crockpot and add chicken broth for moisture. Cook on low heat for the desired duration.
Once cooked, the Betty Crocker's Stuffing is ready to be enjoyed as a flavorful accompaniment to your meal.
This recipe is an adaptation from Betty Crocker's Picture Cook Book, circa 1950, adding a touch of nostalgia and tradition to your dining experience.
