  • Measuring cups

Ingredients

  • 1 Medium Green Cabbage
  • 4 Slices Bacon
  • 1 Medium Onion
  • 2 Cloves Garlic
  • 2 Tbsp Butter
  • 1/2 Tsp Salt
  • 1/2 Tsp Black Pepper
  • 1/2 Tsp Paprika
  • 1/4 Cup Chicken Broth

Instructions

  • Cook the Bacon: Start by frying bacon pieces in the skillet. Cook until they are very crispy.
  • Sauté the Onions: Add sliced onions into the hot bacon grease. Cook them until they look soft and clear.
  • Add the Garlic: Stir in the minced garlic. Cook it for just one minute.
  • Toss in Cabbage: Place the shredded cabbage into the pan. Stir it to coat with the fat.
  • Season the Mix: Sprinkle in your salt, pepper, and paprika. Stir everything well to distribute spices.
  • Simmer with Broth: Pour in a splash of chicken broth. Cover the pan with a tight lid.
  • Steam to Tender: Let it cook for ten minutes. The cabbage should be soft but not mushy.
  • Final Fry: Remove the lid and turn up the heat. Fry for two minutes to brown the edges.

Notes

➔ Use a heavy skillet to distribute heat very evenly.
➔ Do not wash cabbage until right before you chop.
➔ Cut cabbage into uniform strips for even cooking time.
➔ Keep the bacon fat for the best smoky flavor.
➔ Add a pinch of sugar to balance the salt.
➔ Use fresh garlic instead of powder for better taste.
➔ Red pepper flakes add a nice spicy kick here.
➔ Don't overcook the cabbage or it becomes too soggy.
