Guyanese Dhal Recipe

- 1/2 cup yellow split peas (dried)
- 5-6 cups Water
- 3 tablespoon Oil
- 1 cup Chicken stock
- 1/2 teaspoon Cumin
- 3 cloves garlic (sliced)
- 1/2 teaspoon Curry powder
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- 1 Whole wiri wiri
Soak split peas overnight, then drain water.
Boil peas in a pot or pressure cooker until tender.
Blend peas until smooth; return to medium heat.
Add water, chicken stock, spices, and salt. Cook for about 10 minutes.
Fry garlic slices in 3 tbsp oil until dark brown.
Mix fried garlic with dhal; cook a few minutes more.
Stir well, and your dish is ready to enjoy!
- Rinse lentils thoroughly before cooking.
- Use good-quality vegetable broth for more flavour.
- Adjust spices to your taste.
- Blend the Dhal for a creamier texture.
- Add fresh cilantro for a burst of flavour.
