Guyanese Dhal Recipe

In this blog, I will share a Guyanese Dhal recipe which is delicious in taste, my own experience with it, and what you can enjoy it with.

Ingredients
  

  • 1/2 cup  yellow split peas (dried)
  • 5-6 cups  Water
  • 3 tablespoon Oil
  • 1 cup  Chicken stock
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cumin
  • 3 cloves  garlic (sliced)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Curry powder
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • Whole wiri wiri

Instructions
 

  • Soak split peas overnight, then drain water.
  • Boil peas in a pot or pressure cooker until tender.
  • Blend peas until smooth; return to medium heat.
  • Add water, chicken stock, spices, and salt. Cook for about 10 minutes.
  • Fry garlic slices in 3 tbsp oil until dark brown.
  • Mix fried garlic with dhal; cook a few minutes more.
  • Stir well, and your dish is ready to enjoy!

Notes

  • Rinse lentils thoroughly before cooking.
  • Use good-quality vegetable broth for more flavour.
  • Adjust spices to your taste.
  • Blend the Dhal for a creamier texture.
  • Add fresh cilantro for a burst of flavour.
