Homemade Christmas Chai Latte Recipe

  • Medium saucepan
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Fine mesh strainer
  • Whisk or spoon
  • Mugs for serving
  • Optional: milk frother

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups water
  • 4 black tea bags
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 3 tablespoons honey or sugar
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 4 whole cloves
  • 4 green cardamom pods
  • 1 inch fresh ginger sliced
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of nutmeg

Instructions
 

  • Crush the cardamom pods lightly with a spoon.
  • This releases their lovely flavor.
  • Slice the ginger into thin pieces.
  • Keep all your spices ready on the counter.
  • Add water to your saucepan.
  • Put in cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, and ginger.
  • Bring everything to a gentle boil.
  • Let it simmer for 5 minutes.
  • Turn off the heat.
  • Add your black tea bags to the pot.
  • Let them steep for 4 minutes.
  • Don't steep too long or it gets bitter.
  • Remove the tea bags.
  • Add milk and honey to the pot.
  • Stir everything together gently.
  • Heat on low until it's warm and steamy.
  • Pour the chai through a fine strainer.
  • This removes all the spice pieces.
  • Add vanilla extract and stir.
  • Pour into your favorite mugs right away.

Notes

  • Always use whole spices for better flavor.
  • Fresh ginger is much better than dried powder.
  • Adjust sweetness based on your taste preferences.
  • You can use any milk you like.
  • Oat milk and almond milk work great too.
  • Make a bigger batch and store it overnight.
  • Reheat gently when you want to drink it.
  • Top with whipped cream for extra festiveness.
  • A sprinkle of cinnamon on top looks beautiful.
