Paper towels
- 3 Cans Pork And Beans 15 Oz Each
- 6 Slices Bacon
- 1 Medium Onion
- 1/2 Bell Pepper
- 1/2 Cup Brown Sugar
- 1/4 Cup Ketchup
- 1 Tbsp Mustard
- 1 Tsp Worcestershire Sauce
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Grease your large baking dish with cooking spray. This prevents the sugar from sticking to the sides.
Place the bacon in a large skillet. Fry it over medium heat until it is crispy. Remove the bacon and drain it on paper towels.
Chop the onion and bell pepper into small pieces. Sauté them in the leftover bacon grease. Cook them until they are soft and clear.
Open the cans of pork and beans. Pour them into a large mixing bowl. Do not drain the liquid from the cans.
Add the ketchup, mustard, and brown sugar. Stir in the sautéed vegetables and the Worcestershire sauce. Mix everything until the sauce is very smooth.
Crumble the crispy bacon into the bean mixture. Stir gently so the bacon stays in large pieces. Pour the mixture into your prepared baking dish.
Place the dish in the center of the oven. Bake it for about 45 to 60 minutes. The top should be bubbly and dark.
- Fry the bacon until it is very dark and crunchy.
- Do not drain the liquid from the bean cans.
- Use dark brown sugar for a deeper molasses flavor.
- Sauté the vegetables well so they are not crunchy.
- Let the beans sit for ten minutes after baking.
- Stir the beans halfway through the baking time.
- Add a pinch of salt if you use low-sodium beans.
