Equipment

  • Baking Dish
  • Large skillet
  • Whisk
  • Mixing bowl
  • Spatula

Ingredients

  • 6 Slices White Bread
  • 1 Lb Ground Sausage
  • 2 Cups Cheddar Cheese
  • 6 Large Eggs
  • 2 Cups Whole Milk
  • 1 Tsp Dry Mustard
  • 1/2 Tsp Salt
  • 1/4 Tsp Black Pepper

Instructions

  • Cut your white bread into small square cubes. Spread them evenly in your greased baking dish. This creates the first layer of your meal.
  • Place your sausage in a hot skillet now. Break it into small crumbles as it browns. Drain the extra fat before adding to bread.
  • Crack your eggs into the large mixing bowl. Pour in the milk and add your spices. Whisk everything until the yellow yolks disappear completely.
  • Sprinkle your cooked sausage over the bread cubes. Add a thick layer of shredded cheddar cheese. Make sure the cheese covers every single corner.
  • Slowly pour the egg mixture over the pan. Use a fork to push the bread down. This ensures every piece gets soaked in liquid.
  • Cover the pan and chill it overnight. Bake at 350 degrees for forty-five minutes. The top should look golden and very bubbly.

Notes

  • Use high-quality sharp cheddar for the best flavor.
  • Let the casserole sit for ten minutes after baking.
  • Brown the sausage very well for a deeper taste.
  • Always grease your baking dish to prevent sticking.
  • Add some green onions for a fresh color pop.
  • Make sure the bread is slightly stale or dry.
  • Whisk the eggs until they are very bubbly.
  • Do not overcook or the eggs will get rubbery.
