Ingredients

  • 1 cup of unsalted butter softened.
  • 3/4 cup of white granulated sugar.
  • 3/4 cup of packed brown sugar.
  • 2 large eggs.
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
  • 2 1/4 cups of all-purpose flour.
  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda.
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt.
  • 2 cups of semi-sweet chocolate chips.
  • 1 cup of chopped walnuts optional.

Instructions

Prep the Oven

  • Heat your oven to 350°F before you start. Line your pans with parchment paper.

Cream the Butter

  • Put butter and both sugars in the bowl. Beat them until they look very light.

Add the Eggs

  • Mix in the eggs one at a time. Add the vanilla extract to the bowl now.

Mix Dry Parts

  • In the other bowl, whisk flour and baking soda. Add the salt to the dry mix.

Combine the Mix

  • Slowly add the dry parts to the butter. Mix until you do not see flour.

Add the Chips

  • Fold in the chocolate chips with a spoon. Add the nuts now if you like them.

Scoop the Dough

  • Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the pans. Leave space between each cookie.

Bake the Cookies

  • Bake for 10 to 12 minutes total. They should look a bit light in the middle.

Notes

  • Use softened butter. Do not melt it or the cookies will be flat.
  • Measure flour correctly. Use a spoon to fill the cup and level it.
  • Don't overbake them. They keep cooking on the hot pan for a bit.
  • Chill the dough. Putting it in the fridge for an hour helps flavor.
  • Use fresh baking soda. This makes sure your cookies rise perfectly.
  • Add a salt pinch. A little sea salt on top makes them fancy.
