1
cup
of fresh lemon juice
about 6 lemons.
1
cup
of white granulated sugar.
1
cup
of water
for the syrup.
5
cups
of cold water
to finish.
Fresh mint leaves for a pretty look.
1
lemon
sliced into thin rounds.
Instructions
Make Simple Syrup
Put 1 cup water and sugar in the saucepan. Heat it until the sugar melts away.
Cool the Syrup
Take the pan off the stove. Let the sweet water cool down for ten minutes.
Juice the Lemons
Squeeze your fresh lemons until you have 1 cup. Remove any seeds that fall in.
Combine in Pitcher
Pour the lemon juice and cold syrup into the pitcher. Stir them together well.
Add Cold Water
Pour the 5 cups of cold water into the pitcher. Use a spoon to mix it up.
Taste for Sweetness
Try a small sip of your lemonade. Add more sugar or water if you like.
Add the Fruit
Drop the lemon slices into the pitcher. This makes the drink look very fancy.
Serve over Ice
Fill tall glasses with lots of ice. Pour the lemonade and add a mint leaf.
Notes
Use fresh lemons.
Bottled juice does not have the same bright taste.
Make a simple syrup.
This prevents sugar from sitting at the bottom.
Roll the lemons.
Press on them before cutting to get more juice.
Chill the pitcher.
Keep the drink in the fridge until guests arrive.
Use filtered water.
This makes the lemon flavor taste very pure.
Add some berries.
Strawberries make a great pink version of this.
