- 2 ½ Cups All-purpose Flour
- 1 Tsp Salt
- 1 Tsp Sugar
- ½ Cup Vegetable Shortening Chilled
- ½ Cup Butter Cold And Cubed
- 6 Tbsp ICE Water
Mix the flour, salt, and sugar in a bowl. Whisk them together until they are well combined.
Add the cold shortening and butter to the flour. Use your pastry cutter to mix them well. The mixture should look like small, coarse crumbs.
Add the ice water one tablespoon at a time. Stir the dough gently with a large fork. Stop adding water when the dough holds together.
Divide the dough into two even round balls. Wrap each ball tightly in clear plastic wrap.
Place the wrapped dough in the fridge. Let it chill for at least one hour. Chilling makes the dough much easier to roll.
- Use very cold butter for a flakier crust.
- Do not overwork the dough with your warm hands.
- Add ice water slowly to avoid a sticky mess.
- Always chill the dough before you start rolling it.
- Flour your work surface to prevent the dough sticking.
