Aluminum foil
- 2 Lbs Russet Potatoes
- 2 Cups Heavy Cream
- 2 Cups Sharp Cheddar Cheese
- 3 Tbsp Unsalted Butter
- 1 Medium Yellow Onion
- 3 Cloves Garlic
- 1 Tsp Salt
- 1/2 Tsp Black Pepper
- 1 Tbsp Fresh Parsley
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease your baking dish with butter. This prevents the potatoes from sticking.
Peel all of your russet potatoes. Slice them into very thin rounds. Try to keep them equal in size.
Layer half of the potatoes in the dish. Add a layer of sliced onions next. Sprinkle half of your cheese on top.
Whisk the heavy cream and garlic together. Add salt and pepper to the liquid. Pour half of this over the potatoes.
Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes. Add the rest of the cream mixture. Top it with the remaining cheddar cheese.
Cover the dish with aluminum foil tightly. Bake in the oven for forty-five minutes. This softens the potatoes well.
Remove the foil after forty-five minutes. Bake for another fifteen minutes. Wait for the top to turn golden.
- Slice potatoes thinly for even and fast cooking.
- Use a mandolin for perfect and uniform slices.
- Always use full-fat cream for the best taste.
- Let the dish rest before serving it.
- Grate your own cheese for better melting results.
- Add a pinch of nutmeg for extra depth.
