Equipment

  • A large slow cooker (Crock-Pot).
  • Two forks.
  • A small mixing bowl.
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • A sharp knifeĀ

Ingredients

  • 5 lbs Pork Butt or Shoulder.
  • 1 cup of your favorite BBQ sauce.
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar.
  • 1/2 cup water or chicken broth.
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar.
  • 1 tbsp chili powder.
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder.
  • 1 tsp salt and black pepper.

Instructions

  • Trim any very thick fat from the pork. Pat the meat dry with paper towels.
  • Mix your dry spices in a small bowl. Rub them all over the pork meat.
  • Place the pork inside your slow cooker. Add the water and apple cider vinegar.
  • Cover the pot with the lid. Cook on low for 8 to 10 hours.
  • Remove the meat from the pot. Use two forks to pull it apart.
  • Mix the shredded meat with BBQ sauce. Serve it warm on soft buns.

Notes

  • Always cook on low heat for the best texture.
  • Use a fatty cut like pork shoulder for juice.
  • Let the meat rest before you shred it.
  • Add a splash of apple juice for extra sweetness.
  • Toast your buns with butter for a crunch.
