Equipment

  • Large skillet
  • Large pot
  • Potato masher
  • Baking Dish
  • Wooden spoon
  • Colander

Ingredients

  • 1.5 Lbs Ground Beef
  • 1 Medium Onion
  • 2 Cups Mixed Vegetables
  • 1/2 Cup Beef Broth
  • 1 Tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
  • 4 Large Potatoes
  • 4 Tbsp Butter
  • 1/2 Cup Milk
  • 1 Cup Cheddar Cheese
  • 1 Tsp Salt
  • 1/2 Tsp Black Pepper

Instructions

  • Peel and chop your potatoes into small chunks. Place them in the large pot carefully. Cover them with two inches of cold water.
  • Turn the stove to high heat now. Bring the water to a rolling boil. Cook until the potatoes are very soft.
  • Drain the potatoes using your colander. Add butter and milk to the pot. Mash them until they are very smooth.
  • Place the skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef and chopped onions. Cook until the meat is no longer pink.
  • Drain the extra fat from the skillet. Stir in the frozen vegetables and beef broth. Add the Worcestershire sauce for extra flavor.
  • Pour the meat mixture into your baking dish. Spread it out into one even layer. This is the base of your pie.
  • Spread the mashed potatoes over the beef. Use a spoon to make it smooth. Sprinkle the cheddar cheese on the very top.
  • Place the dish in a hot oven. Bake at 375 degrees for twenty minutes. The cheese should be bubbly and brown.

Notes

  • Use warm milk when mashing your potatoes.
  • Brown the beef well for the best flavor.
  • Always drain the grease to avoid a soggy pie.
  • Add extra cheese if you love a gooey top.
  • Season every layer with a bit of salt.
  • Let the pie rest before you slice it.
