  • Cooking Spoon
  • Knife
  • Cutting board

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds fresh string beans
  • 6 slices of thick-cut bacon
  • 1 medium white onion diced
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup water
  • 4 tablespoons salted butter
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon white sugar

Instructions

  • Prepare the Beans: Wash your fresh string beans in cold water. Trim off the tough woody ends with your knife.
  • Fry the Bacon: Place the bacon pieces into the large pot. Cook them until they are brown and very crispy.
  • Saute the Onions: Add the diced onions into the bacon fat. Stir them until they look clear and feel soft.
  • Add the Liquids: Pour in the beef broth and the water. Bring the mixture to a quick and steady boil.
  • Simmer the Beans: Drop the cleaned beans into the hot liquid. Lower the heat and cover the pot with a lid.
  • Season the Dish: Add the butter, salt, pepper, and sugar now. Let everything cook for about one hour total.
  • Drain and Serve: Remove the beans with a slotted spoon. Place them in a warm bowl to serve immediately.

Notes

➔ Use fresh green beans for the very best texture.
➔ Cook the bacon until it is extra crispy first.
➔ Do not rush the long and slow simmering process.
➔ Season with extra salt only at the very end.
➔ Add a splash of water if the liquid gets low.
