Course Dessert

Equipment

  • Tall glass or mug
  • Spoon for mixing
  • Ice cream scoop
  • Straw
  • Small plate

Ingredients

  • Vanilla ice cream 2 large scoops
  • Peppermint soda or lemon-lime soda 1 cup
  • Crushed candy canes 2 tablespoons
  • Whipped cream optional topping
  • Mini candy cane for decoration
  • Peppermint extract 2 drops, if needed

Instructions

  • Take a clean, tall glass first.
  • Chill it in the freezer beforehand.
  • A cold glass keeps everything frosty.
  • This step takes about 10 minutes.
  • Place two scoops of vanilla ice cream.
  • Put them at the bottom gently.
  • Don't pack them down too tight.
  • Leave some room at the top.
  • Slowly pour your peppermint soda over.
  • Pour along the glass side carefully.
  • This prevents too much foam forming.
  • Fill until almost full but not overflowing.
  • Sprinkle crushed candy canes on top.
  • Add whipped cream if you like it.
  • Place a mini candy cane for decoration.
  • Your float looks festive and beautiful now.

Notes

  • Use really cold soda for best results.
  • This keeps your float from melting fast.
  • Freeze your glass for 15 minutes first.
  • Premium vanilla ice cream tastes much better.
  • Crush candy canes in a sealed bag.
  • Use a rolling pin to crush them.
  • Add peppermint extract for stronger minty flavor.
  • Serve your float right after making it.
  • The ice cream melts quickly in soda.
  • Make extras because everyone wants more.
