- 2.5 Cups All-purpose Flour
- 1.5 Cups Granulated Sugar
- 1 Tsp Baking Soda
- 1 Tsp Cocoa Powder
- 1 Cup Buttermilk
- 2 Large Eggs
- 1.5 Cups Vegetable Oil
- 1 Tsp White Vinegar
- 2 Tbsp Red Food Coloring
- 1 Tsp Vanilla Extract
- 16 Oz Cream Cheese
- 0.5 Cup Unsalted Butter
- 4 Cups Powdered Sugar
Heat your oven to 350 degrees. Grease your cake pans with butter. Add a little flour to the pans. This stops the cake from sticking.
Whisk the flour and sugar together. Add the cocoa powder and soda. Mix these dry ingredients very well. Set the large bowl aside now.
Mix the buttermilk and oil together. Add the eggs and red color. Stir until the liquid is dark red. Add the vanilla extract to this.
Pour the wet mix into dry. Stir slowly with your whisk. Do not overmix the batter. Stop when the flour is gone.
Divide batter into the two pans. Tap them on the counter once. This removes any large air bubbles. Bake for thirty minutes total.
Check the cake with a toothpick. It should come out very clean. Let the cakes cool in pans. Then move them to a rack.
Beat the cream cheese and butter. Add powdered sugar slowly now. Mix until the frosting is white. It should look very fluffy.
Place one cake on a plate. Spread a thick layer of frosting. Put the second cake on top. Cover the whole cake with frosting.
