Cuisine American
- 10 slices Bread Day old (any assortment)
- 2 tablespoon Butter (melted)
- 1/3 cup Raisins
- 4 Eggs (beaten)
- 1 +1/4 cups Whole Milk
- 1 cup Evaporated Milk or Cream
- 1/4 cup + 2 tablespoon White Sugar
- 1/4 cup Brown Sugar
- 1 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon Nutmeg grated
- 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
- 1 tablespoon + 1 teaspoon White Rum or Rum of choice
- 6-8 Maraschino Cherries cut in quarters
Soak raisins in rum for at least 30 minutes.
Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease an 8"x2" pan.
Cut bread into 1" cubes and put them in the pan.
Melt butter in the microwave and drizzle it evenly over the bread. If using, add raisins.
In a medium mixing bowl, combine eggs, milk, cream (or evaporated milk), sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, rum, and vanilla. Mix well.
Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread and gently press it down with a fork until the bread soaks it up.
Cut the cherries into quarters and distribute them evenly on top of the bread.
Bake for about 1 hour or until it's set. It shouldn't jiggle when you take it out of the oven.
Let it cool for about 1 hour before serving.
- Dry, old bread works best for the perfect texture.
- Customize with your favourite spices, like nutmeg, vanilla, or cinnamon.
- Avoid putting too much in the baking dish for even baking.
