Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. This ensures even cooking for the pudding. Grease your baking pan with some butter.
Step 2:
Cut your glazed donuts into small cubes. Place the cubes into the large bowl. Make sure they are bite-sized pieces.
Step 3:
Open the can of fruit cocktail now. Do not drain the juice away. Pour the fruit and juice over the donuts.
Step 4:
Add the chopped pecans to the bowl. Sprinkle the ground cinnamon over the donuts. Toss everything together very gently.
Step 5:
In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs. Add the condensed milk to the eggs. Mix them until they are very smooth.
Step 6:
Pour the egg mixture over the donuts. Let the donuts soak for ten minutes. This makes the pudding very moist.
Step 7:
Pour the mixture into your baking pan. Spread it out so it is even. It should fill the pan nicely.
Step 8:
Place the pan in the hot oven. Bake it for about 45 minutes. The pudding should be firm and gold.
Step 9:
While it bakes, make the sweet sauce. Melt the butter in a small pan. Whisk in the powdered sugar slowly.
Step 10:
Add the rum or brandy to the sauce. Cook it on low heat for a minute. The sauce should be thick and clear.
Step 11:
Take the bread pudding out of the oven. Pour the warm sauce over the top. Let it soak in for a bit.
Notes
Use day-old donuts for the best texture. They soak up the liquid much better.Do not overbake the bread pudding at all. It should still have a little jiggle. You can use raisins instead of fruit cocktail. Some people prefer the taste of dried fruit.Always grease the pan very well first. This prevents the sugar from sticking badly.Serve the pudding while it is still warm. It tastes best right out of the oven.Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream too. The cold ice cream melts over the heat.
